Golfers / Tennis Elbow

Golfers / tennis elbow is one of the most common causes of elbow pain but this injury is not only caused by its namesake sports and is generally caused by overuse of the forearm muscles. This happens when an uncommon overload or force is applied to muscle group in question i.e a sudden increase in a sporting activity or say performing a physical task that puts an unusual repetitive strain on your forearm muscles.


What can I do if I suspect I have this injury?

At the first sign that you may be suffering from this condition seek help from a qualified practitioner as early intervention will drastically improve the outcome of your injury and speed up the healing process.  As soon as you notice the onset of tennis / golfers elbow there are a few things you can do to help yourself.

  • STOP doing the activity that causes your elbow pain
  • APPLY ice to painful area ( rule of thumb apply ice 10 minutes of every hour through out the day wherever possible)
  • In the acute phase of injury DO NOT APPLY HEAT
  • IF you do have an tennis elbow support you can use this when performing activities that aggravate your symptoms
